today's day

Well I did a lot of reading today and that was really nice. I read about different ways to comb your hair, different things to eat for breakfast, and all kinds of other stuff. I visited a bunch of websites, some were interesting and some were not. They were about Lethbridge SEO and about reading books and also about construction. When I got finished those websites, I looked up some more on feeding hamsters, weatherproofing your house, and typing for long periods of time without tiring out your hands. The amazing thing is that I remember almost everything I read today, even though I found it quite boring. But I guess that is to be expected. Oh well. Maybe tomorrow it will be more exciting?

Easy Sugar Cookies Recipe

If you want the best sugar cookie ever to die for, then this is the one. It has many great reviews, and since my family bakes only with whole wheat flour, we substituted and it worked out very well. This is one recipe to never lose track of!

A Cover Worth Covering: First Aid Kit Finish Fleet Foxes « The Animal Show

This picture looks like it isn't high definition, but it sure caught my eye. That nose to nose greeting that foxes, dogs and cats do, is so cute. I'm sure other animals do it too. It is so sweet. I just couldn't resist it. It kind of expresses my feelings right now, being close to family and just loving it.

policies

Your website should have a privacy policy, and there are many companies who charge you a great deal of money to make one up for you. If you are a large corporation then maybe you should consider doing this, so that all the legal ramifications are taken care of.

However, for the small business owner running a website, or even for a personal website, you can formulate and post your own privacy policy on your website. Just follow the guidelines set out by Google, which you can find under "Google Privacy Policy". They even have a privacy policy generator you can use.

However, if you want to use your own words then use their guidelines as a pattern to follow.

People who practice good Lethbridge SEO know how important it is to have a privacy policy. It is important for your website visitors to feel comfortable while on your site and not worried about how their confidential information will be treated.

This is especially important when you have forms on your website that they will enter in some of their details like email address, if they are signing up for your newsletter or a special report.

You also need to make sure that you keep your word. Whatever you have promised to do or not to do, stick to your privacy policy like glue.

If, for some reason, you want to make alterations to your privacy policy, it is recommended to notify your email list and also post a notice on your website that a change is being made, the details of the change and what date that change will take effect. Then new visitors to your website can also see what's going on.

my musings

So I'm just thinking about lots of stuff today. One thing I'm thinking about is how the construction of a website is very similar to the construction of a house. You want it to be big enough to suit your needs, affordable, look nice yet be practical and useful, and be attractive enough to invite visitors inside. You want the architecture to be amazing. You want your website to be easily found and recognized, just like looking for a house's address.
Actually the similarities could go on and on. I will have to explore this idea further.

Best Construction Website Awards

Well I found a really interesting website about web construction and the awards given out to those websites which use a combination of design, copy writing, content, technology, innovation etc. to produce an amazing website. This looks like a really interesting topic to follow.

Winning a Construction WebAward would get you some great visibility to your site.

Guinea Pig Care

If you are considering giving a guinea pig for a gift this Christmas, make sure that you also give the recipient a gift of information. If the guinea pig will be living in your own home, make sure no family members are allergic to guinea pigs.

People with seasonal allergies are often allergic the the guinea pig's food, because it includes alfalfa, timothy hay, etc. We noticed after we got guineas that several of us are allergic to the food.

We overcame that obstacle somewhat by buying timothy hay in pelleted form instead of loose, because there was less of it in the air for us to sneeze at.

Some guinea pigs' fur can make people itchy. We have one guinea pig who makes everyone itchy and one who does not. Isn't that interesting? Makes me think they have different oils on their fur. The boys make us itchy and the girls do not. It doesn't seem to matter whether they have long fur or short.

Guinea pigs are very cute, lovable pets and are so cute and funny. We just love them. Toronto runs a guinea pig rescue station to help abandoned guinea pigs, so if you are not able to get your own guinea pig, you can go to their site and sponsor one.

You can also find a lot of great guinea pig information on their site. It is well done and very informative. I highly recommend you visit there if you are wanting to know more about guinea pigs.

About Cats - All About cats and kittens - Cat Care - Cat Behavior - Cat Health

If you are thinking about getting someone a kitten for Christmas this year, it would be a good idea to also give the gift of information. For example, how to take care of a kitten, what to feed them, how to train them, what their habits are, how they change as they grow up, etc.

Remember kittens don't stay small. They need more space as they get older.

Are you considering shots and trips to the vet for checkups? Keep the expense of these necessities in mind when buying a kitten for a present.

Also, what will you do if someone unexpectedly shows allergies to cat hair? That would be really sad to have to give a new pet away because a family member is suffering.

One thing to try is to expose everyone in the house to a cat and see if any allergies occur. Maybe go visit someone who has a cat and stay for awhile. Have everyone hold the cat and pet it and get their face up close to the cat. (Really!)

Being prepared ahead of time is better than getting an unpleasant surprise.

Merry Christmas and have fun with that new kitten!

Leatherback turtles: going where few air-breathers dare : Deep Sea News

Okay, this has to be one of the most amazing photos I have seen in a super long time. This big girl weighs more than the 5 grown men behind her. She laid 12 nests in one season before beginning her migration through the Pacific.

She is a leatherback turtle, which is a variety that has a leathery tough skin where other turtles would have a hard shell.

Unfortunately, these leatherbacks are threatened and some people are stepping up to protect them.

She is amazing!

Local News

A good way to get some information out there on the web is to open a news site and start publishing.
You can use any of the free platforms like Blogger for local news or try posterous, tumblr, etc.

In fact there are thousands out there. Wordpress.com is another great one.

After you have "established" your site with lots of tasty local news articles, you can start putting other articles of interest to your readers.

Have fun with this!

cheerios

What to do while I eat my cheerios this morning? Read the local paper about Vietnamese forums or about the road being built in Cofieu?

It is a difficult choice. Then getting dressed I noticed I had the wrong pair and size of shoes, which doesn't help matters at all? What will I do when I go on my walk? I have absolutely no idea! It isn't even funny.

Then my Dad said he would come over and put some new tiles from Italy on our fireplace, but I don't have time for that. As nice as he is to do that, I prefer the Mexican brick I already have. Sometimes I wonder what to do...

Well whatever. Some day I will figure out what to do. But it isn't going to be right now. I am finishing my cheerios, finding the right shoes and then going on a walk!

A Hub a day...

Keeps the boredom away!

Well, maybe not but I am continuing from yesterday by giving a little sample of some random Hubs I read.

The first one is very funny. Especially if you have or have ever had or will ever have In-laws. You will roll over laughing. It's well worth your time.

For some more humour, and I mean humour, here are the 101 Strangest laws from around the world. Now if you have time, read through all the comments too because some people wrote in with additional funny antiquated laws from around the world.

Next up is not so funny; in fact it will kind of make you sad, especially when you see men and women bashing each other in the comments. It is about Child Support laws in New Jersey. I know that doesn't affect everyone, and not everyone lives in New Jersey, but still. Some people need to get a grip. Nobody wins in a broken family situation.

Maybe this hub should have been read by all those complainers on the last hub. A lot of people strongly believe in the law of attraction. I think in principle it should work, but I admit I am still in the experimental stages, trying it out for myself. This one pertains to relationships. Even if you don't fully believe in the LOA, this author has excellent writing skills.

I hope you find something interesting in one of these hubs.

Actually, maybe I should write a hub...

Canada's Mountains

Wow is this ever a nice website. The pictures are breathtaking; it makes you feel like you are really there.

I also like the layout of the website; it is very appealing.

The colors coordinate beautifully. Someone did a lovely job of constructing this website.

I found the information to be valuable and relevant and it was a good read.

Rivers

Check out this website I found at 42explore.com

This is a really fun website to read up about rivers. Knowing how much I love and appreciate water, I really enjoyed reading about rivers at this website.

I think its important to instill in youngsters a love and respect of water at a very early age.

When water is respected, it is not wasted, and it is treated with care and safety.

Water

I think it was the rhyme of the Ancient Mariner where we find the lines, "Water, water everywhere and not a drop to drink."

It is such a wonderful thing to me to live in a land where fresh clean drinking water is plentiful.

It is something I truly appreciate every single day.

Marketing Advice

Here is a great marketing advice article. It goes over the importance of choosing a good Lethbridge SEO company, as well as giving a good example of the difference between searching for a company name versus doing a keyword search, and why that's important to your Lethbridge business.

If you are a business owner then it is important for you to know why your website needs to rank for keyword search. In order to do that, you need to do keyword research so that you know the optimum keywords that your potential clients are using to find you with.

If you are an aspiring SEO expert, then it's good to stay one step ahead of the game by doing as much research on keyword research as you can. There are a lot of rumors around the web about what is good keyword research and what is not, so make sure to only learn from reputable sources.

Welcome

Parenting. Something that all of us parents could use some help on from time to time. Interesting how kids from the same family all turn out so different. It's not like someone can hand you a user manual and it's good to go.

Uh-uh. (reads "no") So, in that light, it's a good idea to polish up on your skills once in awhile. Try it. You'll like it.

Great new Ezine Article

There is a great new ezine article about tutoring, one of my favorite subjects.

It is called Be a Tutor: Share Your Skills and Make Good Money

I really admire people who are proficient in a subject and can share their skill with others.

It is a great way to help someone who wants to learn what you know.

At the same time, you could polish up on your skills and make some extra money.

Sounds like a win-win situation to me.

Lethbridge SEO

SEO is a very important concept for all internet marketers. Although Google closely guards its' algorithm secrets, internet marketers have been speculating on what is important and what is not in optimizing for the search engines.
Lethbridge SEO is a new kid on the street.

It is essential to rank on google's first page if one wants to reap all the benefits of the free traffic that reside there.

This struggle is what turns the cogs on the giant internet framework.

Bedtime

Sometimes I know it's time for bed but I just can't turn off my computer.

I am so excited about all the new things I am learning.

I have started making a few dollars with A.ds*ense and it is very exciting!

My kids are all tucked into bed and I need to follow suit.

Snowstorm

We got hit by a huge snow storm last night. We are under about 6 inches of snow, with frozen ice beneath.
It is so cold I can hardly stand it. My face skin freezes in about 2 minutes.

Here the weather can change in the blink of an eye. It can go from very cold to warm when a chinook wind comes.

It can plummet from warm to very cold within hours.

It's time to curl up under my nice warm blankets now.

Feeling Better Now

Well in my last blog post I was talking about feeling so tired this morning.

I decided to do 15 minutes of jumping on my mini-trampoline instead of the brisk walk, because of the rain outside.

It was just what the doctor ordered. Actually what I do is I jog on my mini-tramp as I lovingly call it for short.

I put on some music or an educational CD and listen to that while jogging.

It doesn't take long to get my heart rate up and break into a sweat.

I had a roommate in College who would religiously do time on her mini-tramp every morning and again every night.

She also ate 15-20 raw almonds per day.

That's all I really remember about her...

Well maybe that's a good example to me. I am not as regular on my mini-tramp as that, but I should be because so many days are just too cold to go outside.

Toodles!

I'm so Tired Today

Well I am just using this blog post to rant today. Sorry but I am just plain tired. Today I couldn't remember any of the words I wanted to use. Was telling a friend about a certain author and I couldn't remember his name. Also couldn't remember the name of the series of books he wrote.

It doesn't make sense because I actually had enough sleep last night; it just wasn't quality sleep, and I didn't realize it until I woke up with a stiff neck and a headache.

I felt as though I had never even gone to bed yet.

It's rare for me to feel that tired.

I wonder if I have been sitting too many hours at my computer?

I think I will go for a brisk walk and see how that helps. Ever feel this way?

Bad Hair Cut

Oh Wow! Have you seen some bad hair cuts?

I am normally pretty good at trimming hair, especially on myself or my kids, but I tried doing one of my daughter's a few weeks ago and boy oh boy, she did not like it! I did exactly what she asked for, and I thought it looked good, but she sure didn't like it. (She is 14.5 years old)

Well, I took her to a hairdresser the very next morning to "fix" it, and now she loves it.

So yesterday she starts asking me about highlights in her hair. I could tell where the conversation was going, so I asked her if she was thinking about getting them.

She said yes and asked me when I could do it. I almost dropped dead. I vowed never to touch her head again and I intend to keep my vow.

I told her I've never done it before and she needs to save up and go get it done professionally.

Phew!.....

Family Loses 4 Members

My sister told me about this news article. It is so sad. This family lost 4 members in a motor vehicle collision.

http://www.lethbridgeherald.com/2010111349896/front-page-news/vigil-a-time-for-grieving-111310.html

Oh, I know how hard it is to lose 1 member at a time, from old age, but to lose several family members in the prime of their life and a young child, I just can't imagine how hard it must be.

My thoughts and condolences go out to this family at this difficult time.

Eczema of the Fingers

Eczema of the fingers is an itchy, annoying, terrible condition. I know because I have it. The mysterious thing about it, is that it didn't appear until I was in my early forties. Why isn't there anything known about this condition?

It is more widespread than I thought and you would think that with all the medical advancements in this day and age that there would be more know about why this condition flares up in some people, what some good remedies are, and maybe even a cure or a preventative.

So far I have found very little. However, this little ehow article provides some natural remedies for eczema, which I am going to try today. The nutmeg paste is top on my list. I don't have the other herbs mentioned in the other home remedies on this site.

There are lots of problems my families or friends have had which we have solved with research on the internet. It is very nice to have such a large pool of information right at our very fingertips. Of course I wouldn't try to solve a life-threatening problem just by looking on the internet, and I would not recommend it to anyone else either.

This post is just about me finding solutions to my own problems and not a recommendation to anyone else in any way, shape or form.

Well, thanks for listening.

Crockpot Spaghetti Sauce

Boy it sure has been feeling cold lately...if you haven't got your crockpot out and dusted off then now's the time to do it!

The warm comfort food we all enjoy so much. Simmered to perfection...try this recipe today if you have never enjoyed crockpot spaghetti sauce.

If you have a bread machine, put in a loaf of crusty frencfh bread that you can enjoy with garlic spread along with your spaghetti and a salad.

Otherwise, you could just take sliced bread, spread with butter and sprinkle with garlic powder, and bake in oven til crispy around the edges.

MMMmmm...good!

Honesty in IM

Honesty in Internet Marketing. For some marketers, these 2 things go hand in hand. For other marketers, they are complete opposites.

If you have been a marketer for any time or been around the internet for awhile, I am sure you know exactly what I mean.

Well, Josh Spaulding, the ethical internet marketer, has a blog post informing us that the IRS will now require paypal to report all earnings to the IRS. So, you better report your paypal earnings if you haven't been already.

I know this applies to US citizens (which I am not by the way), but the honesty factor applies to all of us.

Remember what we learned when we were young?

Honesty is the best policy.

If you always tell the truth, you never have to remember what you said.

Be honest.

Education Costs

This article is a few years old, but it provides some interesting information on education costs worldwide.

From a research standpoint, this information can be used for more than just trying to estimate the cost of education.

There are so many factors to consider, and of course putting a cost on education at all tends to make the assumption that cost is a negative thing. The long-range (lifetime) cost of no education is much higher than the relatively short-term cost of the education.

This article also discusses per capita education spending for different countries around the world, and library spending.

Library spending is directly related to the literacy of a people.

I am very much in support of free worldwide education. Now that we have the internet, I see no reason why we can't get closer to attaining this tremendous goal.

Dollhouses

This is a great squidoo lens on dollhouses. The reason I am blogging about it isn't strictly because I love dollhouses, but also because it is a great lens.

For those of us who need more experience and good examples in building great lenses, this is a premium example.

This lens features several different dollhouses, their benefits and characteristics, and then offers accessories that go with each one.

Lenses like this are great because they sell from your Amazon associates account, you get revenue all year long from them, and they do especially well at Christmas time.

Joel 2.0

Wow! If you have been following Joel Comm, you may already know that today he announced the arrival of Joel 2.0

On his radio show today he blew the lid off of the whole scam routine that so many internet marketers and make money online and affiliate gurus are doing to rip off so many people.

He also talked about how we have a mission in life and we need to find and fulfill our purpose. If you are at all interested in this stuff, go to his site and take a look.

He talked about transparency and honesty. Things that seem to be missing lately in marketing. He always signs his posts and autoresponder emails with do good stuff.

Well he practices what he preaches.

Google Earth

Have you ever tried Google Earth?

It is absolutely amazing. You can find your way around a neighborhood you have never seen in person.

You can find your great-uncle's house halfway around the world.

I have used google earth to study a place in advance when I knew that I would be travelling there. It made me feel like I had already been there and I didn't feel so lost.

Try it; you will like it. The site will walk you through the downloading process.

SEO and Article Marketing for Cheap

Have you ever heard of the website called fiverr?

This is a great place! I just found it a couple of days ago. You would not believe what people are willing to do for a mere $5.

There are a list of categories to choose from, but you could pay someone to write your articles for you, your blog posts, even analyze your site for SEO.

Not only that but you can pay someone to sing you a song on you tube, hold a business sign and take a picture and send it to you, do your video work for you, call your boy/girl friend to break up with them for you, send your Grandma a letter, give you a wake-up call in the morning, and whatever else you could possibly think of.

For only a one-off payment of $5.

You can't beat that!

Article Directories

Did you know that article directories are useful for many things, not just for reading articles?

You can publish an article to your blog. Remember you have to keep everything intact including the author's links.

You can browse through the categories and article titles for ideas of subjects to write about.

You can learn a lot of different author's views about one subject.

Here are a couple of interesting articles for you to peruse about saving money:

Save money on your mortgage

Save money on printer ink

These are both from Ezine Articles but there are many more article directories you can look through.

Do a search for article directories. See what comes up and point and click. There are literally thousands.

Ezine is my favorite but I really like some others too.

Ezine Articles

You can learn a lot of interesting things from ezine articles.

Here are some of my favorites:

How to Become a Tutor

Being Self Employed

How to Save Money

You can find knowledge on almost any subject within ezine articles. Because their editorial process is so rigid, you can generally read through the articles without stumbling over all kinds of spelling and grammatical errors.

So much content on the web these days is auto-generated spin crap and I won't even read it. Article spinners give you syntax that most of the time doesn't make sense.

Ezine articles really has the human touch.

You can also call up ezine articles and do a search within their article database to call up absolutely thousands of articles.

Say goodbye to boredom

What's the best way to say goodbye to boredom? Well, I wouldn't know what boredom is, because I am always trying to get something done. I think being mom to 6 kids and a husband kinda takes care of that.

However, sometimes my 11 year old son sings the boredom blues.

The first remedy is he gets extra chores to do. Believe it or not, he seldom complains. He would rather do a chore than be bored.

Another good remedy is to find a good hobby.

Follow that link to find yourself a new good hobby today. Did you know that often when you become good at a hobby it opens doors to additional income as well? We could all use some of that.

Work from home opportunity

Tutoring is a great work from home opportunity.

How to Become a Tutor provides all the useful info you need to get started tutoring from home.

Knowing how you are helping someone else while making a good income for yourself will give you the desire to be a tutor now.

Many sites these days offer you opportunities of working from home.

We all know most of them are scams. I have been ripped off many times and likely you have, too.

Starting your own business is a good way to avoid being scammed, because you are your own boss.

Just think of being able to decide your own hours, your own fees, having nobody to answer to except yourself.

There are a lot of other ways to eat oatmeal than just cooking up a bowlful.

Think oatmeal cookies, oatmeal bars, oatmeal bread, oatmeal pancakes, and the list is almost endless.

using chopsticks

Chopsticks are great. I always get the free ones when we go out for chinese food. Then I take them home and wash them and reuse them. I know that sounds cheap but I love doing it. Then sometimes we break out the chopsticks just for the fun of it. It's nice to have lots of sets of them, so you can choose the length, color, etc.

It's really fun to watch someone who doesn't know how to hold them or use them. They are so funny.

Here's a link to watch a video so you can learn how to use them.

Death Toll in Haiti Cholera Outbreak Passes 280 | Firstcoastnews.com | Health News

Wow! Over 280 people dead from the cholera outbreak in Haiti. That is so sad. We have come to think of cholera as a sickness in pioneer days, but it is apparent that people can still die from it today.

I was watching a movie on the weekend. It is the "Love Comes Softly" series. In about movie #6 or #7 out of 8 total, there is a cholera outbreak. You feel like they must have felt- helpless- watching people die from this sickness.

We should feel so blessed and so fortunate that we have access to modern medicine. I wish there was a way for all people worldwide to have this same blessing.

How to Become a Tutor and Earn Extra Money

How to Become a Tutor and Earn Extra Money

Article Word Count: 449 [View Summary] Comments (0)

Become a tutor as a way to supplement your income

Everyone seems to be looking for a way to make extra money these days. Whether or not you already work a full-time or part-time job, a personal tutoring business could be just the thing you are looking for. Most tutoring is done in the evenings, because most students are at school during the day. Thus, tutoring becomes a job that can be done a few evenings a week or even on the weekends. You can be very flexible with the hours you choose to work each week as a tutor. You can set up your schedule to do tutoring a certain night each week, or Saturdays only; whatever fits your needs.

How to become a tutor without previous experience

If you are just starting out as a tutor, there are a couple of things you need to do to get started:

First, you will need to identify areas in which you have skills, talents, or experience. These are the subjects you will offer tutoring in. If you are a carpenter during the day, you could offer tutoring to students who are preparing to take the trades exam. If you are a stay at home mom, you could offer tutoring in a subject you did well in at school. If you are a university student, offer tutoring in a class you have taken and received a high grade. If you are uncertain, then offer tutoring for a skill such as fishing or skating. There's at least one thing you are good at that someone else would like to be good at too.

Second, you will need to find some willing subjects. This is very important as it will give you references to supply to prospective clients. Ask around to some people you know and offer to give them or their children some hours of free tutoring. Don't be skimpy on this step. This investment of time and effort will be worth it. Make sure to get testimonials and referrals from your willing subjects. Put them together in a nice format as references you can show prospective students and their parents.

Third, decide where you will do your tutoring. Would it work best if the student came to your house? How about if you went to the student's house? Alternately, you could book a room in the local library (usually free), or meet at a University or College close by. Make sure their library has places where its ok to talk quietly. If the student is young, be prepared for the parents to want you to come to their house for the tutoring sessions, at least for the first little while.

This article is a very informative piece which will help you in figuring out where to start in setting up your own tutoring business.

You can find lots more information on tutoring business here:

be a tutor now

0

I have been searching for some information for tutors in Canada who wish to sign up with an agency and tutor online during the day, to home-schooled students.

After doing some research and checking with other fellow-tutors, this is what I decided to recommend:

http://www.findatutor.ca/

and

http://www.tutorindex.ca/

Now, just because I recommended these 2 doesn’t mean there aren’t a lot of other good ones available. The best way for you to decide is to check out each one individually. See which is the best fit for you, which will work the best with you to start and expand your own tutoring business.

In parts of Canada the home-schooling trend has increased dramatically over the past few years. Many parents are looking for tutors to help out. Now, if you had planned on tutoring locally rather than tutoring online, you still have a lot of options.

Home school tutoring is a very satisfying and financially rewarding niche within the tutoring business.

There are so many new tutoring agencies popping up on the internet. Make sure you check them out thoroughly before signing up.

Phone the agency and talk to someone who is involved with all the workings of the business so you can ask lots of questions.

NaNo WriMo

Posted by Stephanie on October 31, 2010 in Uncategorized

NaNo WriMo is a world-wide challenge that happens between November 1st and 30th. It stands for National Novel Writing Month. Every person that signs up for it is tasked to write 50,000 words in those 30 days. A lot of you have probably already heard about this, but I wanted to write a post anyways.

As impossible as it sounds, there are hundreds of thousands of winners each year. As tomorrow is November 1st, a lot of people are having pre-noveling jitters (me included) and so I want you, my precious readers, to know that I am attempting this insane challenge for the first time, starting tomorrow.

The best thing about telling everyone you’re doing it is the motivation that comes from not wanting to look stupid if you don’t finish. It really helps when you don’t want to write and you think back to all those people counting on you to cross the finish line.

Good luck to everyone out there who is doing NaNo this year!

Wow! Did you see this blog post. NaNo WriMo...have you heard of that before. This sounds like an extremely interesting idea! In fact I think I would jump in with both feet if I wasn't already right in the thick of a big writing project for a new website I am trying to launch.

Tutoring as a stay at home job

Becoming a tutor as a way to earn extra money while staying at home can give you a great first or second income while you are helping someone else.

There are many students who need the help of a good tutor, and you likely have skills or experience which could benefit someone else.

Tutoring can be done at home in person, at home over the internet, or at the student's house, or even at a tutoring center.

Check out all the options and see which one works for you.

Brush and Floss Your Teeth

It is really important to brush and floss your teeth. Your adult teeth are irreplaceable. They work hard for you, chewing and preparing your food for digestion.
It is not fun to wear dentures. It is not a good trade-off to decide that you won't brush your teeth because you can always get dentures some day.

Talk to anyone who has to wear dentures and they will tell you. Brush your teeth now, while you have the chance to keep them.

Flossing is an important addition to the daily brushing routine. If dental floss has you feeling like you have all thumbs, then get those little plastic flossers.

I buy them at the dollar store. I get about 70 in a package for $1 and they work wonders.

Flossing - Dental Flossing Importance - Benefits Of Flossing

Is flossing necessary for my oral health?

It is surprising that only 12% of the population of a well developed country such as United States of America floss their teeth daily. Even more surprising is the fact that hardly anyone is aware of the necessity of flossing. Some are rather incorrectly inclined to believe that regular brushing is enough to keep their tooth healthy. Let me try enlightening you on the necessity of flossing for good oral hygiene.

A study was carried out 51 twins on the importance of flossing which published in American journal of periodontology (aug 2006). One of them was instructed to just brush and the other to brush and floss. Their dental health was examined before and after the study. The results showed the group that flossed had 38% fewer bleeding gum sites than before the intervention and overall gum bleeding improved by an average of 42%”

Some Flossing facts

  • Brushing sans flossing is comparable to cleaning only 65% of your body leaving the 35% dirty which simply means you are not completely clean.
  • Flossing removes the tiny trapped food particles and also the plaque trapped between the teeth which a tooth brush cannot reach.
  • It also prevents the formation of calculus or tartar which if formed can only be removed by your dentist.
  • Recent studies have indicated flossing reduces the risk of heart attack. Hard to believe? Well, this is attributed to the close relation between gum disease and heart attack. The gum disease is prevented by regular flossing which decreases the risk for heart attack.

What are the harmful effects of NOT Flossing?

If the advantages of flossing are not good enough to encourage you to start flossing, may be knowing the harms of not flossing might be more yielding.

  • The main objective of flossing is to remove the plaque lodged between the teeth. When this fails to occur, the plaque hardens in to tartar which can only be removed by an oral hygienist or dentist.
  • The bacteria present in the tartar (calculus) produce acids which damage your gums and cause swelling:- a condition known as gingivitis.
  • Untreated gingivitis leads to periodontal disease which eventually causes bone resoption and tooth loss.

So, do pickup this good habit which will improve your oral health for the good. Happy Flossing.

The statistic about the percentage of people who floss daily, in a well developed country, really surprised me.

Or maybe, it shouldn't. In my family of 8, I bet only 2 people floss daily (without me constantly reminding them), and even with reminders, I bet only 2 more people get it done daily. That's only half.

It's sad. I wish people had more knowledge about what causes tooth decay and gum disease, because then flossing would get the limelight it deserves, right up there with brushing and regular cleanings.

Canadian Family | 7 Family Tested Breakfast Cereals | slide 1

Breakfast cereal...I have a love-hate relationship with breakfast cereal.
I love that it is so quick; I hate that it is so expensive.
I love that it is so easy; I hate that it is usually nutrition-less.

So yes, you really do have to be picky about which one you choose.
Otherwise, you just aren't getting good nutritional value for your money.

Besides, breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
We try to have a big cooked breakfast 90% of the time.

Baby Hair Clips - Children's hair clips, baby hair bows, barrettes, headbands, hair bow holders

This site has the cutest hair clips ever for baby girls. When my girls were babies, cute hair things were hard to find, and in fact, we often had to make our own.

So, now that I have grand babies coming, I am hoping to get a little girl to try these out on.

The thing is, the baby needs to have a little hair for it to work. What we used to do is put a little gel on the hair that you can gather into a little pony and then put the clip on. When the gel dries, the little bit of crunchy hair is harder for the pretty bow to slip off of.

Try it out. They look really cute.

Sour Cherry Preserves

Got lots of sour cherries? Then it's time to make jam or preserves, and bottle away some of that goodness for the winter.

Sour Cherry Preserves is the perfect answer for you.

Cherries are so healthy! They are overflowing with goodness and contain many beneficial nutrients to keep us healthy.

Not only that, but cherries are very yummy, too.

Have you ever tasted frozen cherries? My grandma used to freeze fresh cherries and then on a hot day we could get one and pop it in our mouth and let it melt. Then it would be so juicy and soft just like candy. I can remember it well.

Cherries make awesome pies as well.

I think cherry jam is one of my favorites. Fresh bread with cherry jam or even better, toast topped with cherry jam.

I think I need some now...

Quick Easy Cheap Meals

How to put a meal on the table quick.

It is very important in our busy life to be able to serve up an appetizing meal in a quick fashion. If you get in the habit of doing this one easy thing, you will become an expert at getting a  meal on the table in only minutes. Here's one habit you can start: as soon as you walk in the door, put a pot of water on to boil. Small pot for small family; larger pot for a large family. Practice will make perfect in judging how much water to use. Then, as you are getting ready to come in the kitchen, the water is well on its way to boiling. What can you do with boiling water? You can cook potatoes, rice, macaroni, spaghetti, hard-boiled eggs, use it for hot chocolate or herb tea, throw in bouillon cubes, some veggies and leftover meat for a quick soup. The possibilities are numerous. This one habit is your first step to having quick, easy, cheap meals.

Make it easy to get dinner done.

Dinner is something that has to happen every day, for the rest of your life. Whether you cook for yourself or a family, how can we make this job easier? Plan ahead. You can plan ahead by making a list of what dinner will be for the next week and making sure you have all the ingredients. You can plan ahead by cooking several meals in one day when you have time and then freezing them to eat later. You can also plan ahead by cooking some extra food every time you cook and then using that extra food for another meal later. Talk about easy! Some of the work is done already, with very little effort. It takes only a little more effort to make 2 meatloaves instead of 1 or make 2 batches of cookies instead of 1. Then these "planned-overs" can be put in the fridge or freezer to use later (or sooner; its up to you). This is your second step to having quick, easy, cheap meals.

You can save a lot on your food bill.

You can eat healthy, fun, nutritious food and save money at the same time. One great way to save money on your food bill is to try cooking with beans, peas and lentils. If you've never tried them, they are very delicious, filling, and a powerhouse of nutrition. Maybe you have had them before and didn't care for them. Try them cooked a different way. Scout around for a variety of recipes that use these healthy legumes as they are an excellent way to stretch your food dollar. You could make bean burgers, lentil loaf, or split pea soup as the main course and accompany it with some nice vegetables. When first trying out these foods, start out a little at a time. This is your third step to being able to prepare quick, easy, cheap meals.
