Well this is interesting, some body parts are more sensitive to changes in the environment than other body parts are. Somehow that information can lead to better ways of treating some diseases, among them type 2 diabetes.
Studies show that despite malnutrition, peoples' brains grow to near full size, and despite other environmental factors as well. I'm not sure how they will tie this in to a cure for type 2 diabetes, but they will.
Apparently the way fruit flies have some body parts more sensitive to environmental changes is similar to the process humans use, so they can test hypotheses on fruit flies. Interesting.
