Would love to see Siberia some day. Seems like such a vast but desolate place. Some of the pictures I have seen are quite beautiful. There are even roads. Who would have thought!
Most of my education about Siberia came from a book I read as a youth called "The Endless Steppe" and was about a child in a Siberian concentration camp and how she got along. Siberia itself was the camp's fences. Since there was nowhere to go, they just lived in villages. Kind of.
She learned to knit and then would take apart old sweaters and use the yarn to knit new clothing items out of and sell them. She would dig out small frozen potatoes out of the ground and boil them with whatever else she could find to make a soup to eat.
It was a really great book actually. I would like to find it again and read it.
